Where can you practice PE Civil problems?

You can practice PE Civil problems with the NCEES practice exam in MyNCEES, where the price appears after you log in, with a course from PPI or School of PE, or with Engineer Exam Lab Premium at $89 a month or $890 a year, which includes a 7-day free trial. Work those problems in the PE Civil Reference Handbook, version 2.2 (502 pages), and in the design-standard editions your module is scored on.

Practice that matches your module

PE Civil is five separate exams: Construction, Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation, and Water Resources and Environmental. A set written for another module will miss the specifications you will see, so choose the exam that fits your experience before you buy problems or a course. Which PE Civil exam you should take is a direct way to make that choice.

Good practice stays on that one module, uses the handbook and the design-standard editions the exam scores, and runs on a clock, though you can keep early sessions untimed while you learn where a provision sits. Timed sessions then show whether the lookup fits the exam window. Read the PE Civil exam format before you build a full sitting, so the blocks you practice match the real structure.

Where the problems come from

NCEES sells its own practice exams inside MyNCEES. Select the practice exam for the module you will take. This is the set from the organization that writes the exam, so it gives a direct look at how items are written.

PPI’s prices in the table are for PE Civil Water Resources and Environmental prep. The Learning Hub comes as a 3-month bundle and a 6-month bundle, OnDemand is billed by the month, and Live Online is listed from a sale price with a higher regular price. For Construction, Geotechnical, Structural, or Transportation, read the price on PPI’s page for that exam. If Water Resources and Environmental is yours, line the course up with what is on the PE Civil Water Resources and Environmental exam.

School of PE publishes one OnDemand price schedule for PE Civil Construction, Geotechnical, Transportation, and Water Resources and Environmental, and for the separate PE Environmental exam. Structural is not named on that list. The monthly price and the longer terms are in the table.

Practice on the handbook edition you will have

The PE Civil Reference Handbook is version 2.2, with the third posting in December 2025. Learn the layout until you can reach a formula or table without wandering, because this PDF is the reference supplied with the exam. What references you can use on the PE exam explains how that handbook fits with the design standards.

When a question refers to a design standard, it is scored on the edition named in the specifications, and answers drawn from any other standard receive no credit. Practice on the listed editions, and open the same kind of section you will open during the exam. After a miss, write the edition, the section, and the step that failed, then work a similar problem while the correction is still clear.

A 6-minute pace

Eight hours for 80 questions is 6 minutes per question. The 6 minutes include the time you spend searching the handbook or a standard, so start timing when the search starts. If one item runs long, flag it and continue, so one slow standard does not consume the rest of the set.

We suggest you use 6 minutes as a checkpoint while a standard is still new, then aim at that pace on later sets. One way to split a week is several careful reworks of missed items plus one timed block, organized on a 12-week study plan for the PE exam.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find free PE Civil practice problems?

NCEES, PPI, and School of PE charge for the practice products compared here, and the NCEES price appears only after you log in to MyNCEES. Engineer Exam Lab gives new members a 7-day free trial, after which Premium is $89 a month or $890 a year, with no refunds. You can cancel in Skool settings, and access continues until the paid period ends.

Is the NCEES PE practice exam worth it?

Buy it when you want practice items from NCEES and the price shown in MyNCEES fits your budget. Choose the practice exam for your module, and work any standard-based item on the edition named in the specifications, since other editions receive no credit. PPI or School of PE fits when you want a course along with the problems. Engineer Exam Lab Premium fits when you want to post a question in the Ask category and have the tutor answer with steps.

How many practice problems should I do for the PE?

You choose the count. The fixed number in the exam length is 80 questions in 8 hours, or 6 minutes each. We suggest timed sets at that pace on your module, then untimed reworks of misses in the handbook and the listed standard editions. One way to split the weeks is to follow a 12-week plan and to give extra time to standards you search slowly.

Are the PPI prices the same for every PE Civil exam?

Learning Hub is $695 for 3 months or $895 for 6 months, OnDemand is $545 a month, and Live Online starts at $2,095 on sale, with a regular price of $2,595. Those figures were on PPI’s page on October 3, 2026. For Construction, Geotechnical, Structural, or Transportation, use the price on the PPI page for that exam.
